Library Workshops - Teachers: contact Mrs. Kemp to schedule any of these workshops.

BLOGS 101 – 1 library lab day

5-10 minutes class instruction with remainder of class for student blogging

The purpose of the workshop is to have students respond to teacher generated topics using interactive technology.

Teacher prep:  Students should be required to respond to a topic posted by the teacher on a blog site (posted prior to this class period.) Teacher should schedule one prep period with the librarian to set up the blog – that’s all!

Workshop details:  Librarian or teacher will provide blog URL to students and demonstrate how to post a comment.  No last names should be used in posts – have students use something like class period no space first name last initial (2melaniek for Melanie Kemp in 2nd period) – just some system that works for you without student last names.  Examples (just a few ideas): You might give students a link to an online news article to read and have them post a 3-5 sentence summary of the article.  You might have them read so many pages of the text (everybody reads the same pages or divide the chapter among students) and they post a 5-6 sentence summary of what they read.  You might have students locate a Web site about a specific topic and include a brief annotation of the site.

Consider:  Even if several classes will be responding to the same blog entry, consider entering a separate blog entry for each class period and have students respond to the appropriate class period --- easier to check for grades!  We can set this up during your prep period to help you keep entries for each class period separate … or not, your choice.
