Current Events – 1 library lab day

1 class period lab instruction with guided & individual practice and time for students

to locate & print current event for class assignment

The purpose of this workshop is to make students aware of a variety of online news sources and teach them how to use the “print-friendly” version when printing from the Internet.

*Freshmen especially benefit from this lesson since they are not accustomed to locating and using current events for assignments. 

Teacher prep: Students should be given an assignment that requires them to locate and use a current event.

Workshop details:  Students will learn how to locate current events using several online news sites, learn how to use the print link to print articles, practice locating articles, and have time to locate & print a current event for class assignment (can be geared toward state, national or world history items or subject specific articles such as health, science, career, etc.)

Product:

• printed current event using print-friendly version
• MLA citation of the news article (included in library instruction)
• completed product required by teacher
