NOODLE - 2 library lab days - for research

3 class periods librarian instruction & guided practice

The purpose of the workshop is to have students cite information sources in MLA format and record notes on electronic notecards.  (Additional 1-day workshop needed to teach students to use copy/paste their notecards into a rough draft document.)

Teacher prep:  Students should be required to prepare a research report using a variety of information sources.

Workshop details:  Librarian will create Noodle accounts for students, guide students in login and account maintenance tasks, and teach them to create citations and notecards electronically using Noodle.  Librarian will demonstrate a completed research assignment in the program by showing students the citations and notecards for the project.  Students will be shown how to copy their own electronic notecards and paste them into a Word document for the rough draft of their paper, but an additional 1-day session will be needed to "teach" them to do this. That 1-day session will allow enough time for instruction and enough time for students to copy & paste their own notecards into their rough drafts. 

Product at the end of day 3:

• students will electronically submit to the teacher a list of source cards from their practice session with the librarian

Product after students are given time to conduct their own research:

• students will have the ability to electronically submit their sources to their teacher in notecard form
• students will be able to print their Works Cited page from the program
• students will have the ability to electronically submit their notecards to their teacher
• students will have the ability to print their notecards

NOODLE - 1 library lab day - to produce rough draft from Noodle source cards

1 class period librarian instruction & student work time

The purpose of the workshop is to have students produce a rough draft research report from their Noodle notecards.

Teacher prep:  Students should have completed the first Noodle workshop and should have had ample time to produce their notecards.

Workshop details:  Librarian will demonstrate to students how to access a document copy of their notecards in Noodle.  Students will learn how to format that document and then copy and paste information from it into a new document for their rough draft.  The librarian will review the procedure for printing the Works Cited page and how to cite sources with the research report. 

Product:

• students will be able to print their Works Cited page from Noodle
• students will be able to produce a rough draft copy of their report (some students may require additional time beyond this 1-day session)
