WORKS CITED – 1-2 library lab days

2 class periods instruction with guided practice exercises, group practice exercises, and formal individual evaluation exercises

The purpose of this workshop is to teach students to create a Works Cited page in MLA format.

Teacher prep:  None.

Workshop details:  Students will learn where to find online style guides to assist them in creating a Works Cited page in MLA format.  Librarian will teach students to cite basic sources in MLA format including: book with one, two or three authors or editors; magazine article (through MAGNOLIA) with one, two or three authors; Web site with or without author;  image from Web site or from a search engine's image search; etc. Students will be given notes and examples and will participate in guided practice exercises.  They will work in groups to complete proper citations before individually completing a final exercise for evaluation.

Product:

• completed notes and examples of properly cited sources in MLA format

• completed guided exercises

• completed group exercises

• individual formal evaluation exercises
